DalCard Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a DalCard cost?

There is no charge for your first DalCard. However, there is a $15 replacement fee if your DalCard is lost, stolen or damaged due to misuse. For participants in the Halifax Metro Transit UPass program, there is an additional $15 charge to replace a lost, stolen or defaced UPass sticker.

Can I submit a photo online for a replacement card?

No. Replacement DalCards are only issued in person at the DalCard Offices in Halifax and in Truro, after the replacement fee is paid. You will have the option of using your existing photo if it is still accurate or taking a new picture in person.

What kind of file can I submit?

We accept .jpg files. The minimum size is 310x370 pixels at 300dpi to a maximum file size of 6 megabytes.

What happens if the photo I supply does not meet the specified requirements?

You will receive an email indicating the reason why the photo is not acceptable. You can either submit another picture, or visit the DalCard Offices in Halifax or Truro to have your DalCard photo taken in person.

My photo has been approved. When can I pick up my DalCard?

Residence students: Saturday, September, 3

Halifax Campus: students will receive their cards when they check-in to residence
Agricultural Campus: students can pick up their cards from the Cox Building Room 102D

Off-Campus students: Friday, September 2
